Knowledge of runic writing reached the Nordic countries,
as early as the 3:rd century A.D.
After 400 A.D. it began to be used for inscriptions on stones.
The stone was usually put up to commemorate
a dead person or some great deed.

The inscription reads:

Rodvisl and Rodälv had the stones erected after their three sons.
This one after Rodfos.
The Rumanians deserted him on their way out.
God save his soul.
God deserts the person who deserted Rodfos.
