Knowledge of runic writing reached the Nordic countries,
as early as the 3:rd century A.D.
After 400 A.D. it began to be used for inscriptions on stones.
The stone was usually put up to commemorate
a dead person or some great deed.

The inscription reads:

Folkvid erected all these stones
after his son Hedin, brother of Anund.
Vred carved the runs.
